Good health has been linked with good sleep

catching a cold Sleep less

Good health has been linked to good sleep. Lack of sleep weakens mental alertness, efficiency and immune system. How do we quantify this especially the relationship between sleep and immune function?

A recent study involved 164 adults was done to analyze this relationship. Researchers tracked their duration and quality of sleep for 7 days. Then the participants are being administered the cold virus and being monitored for another week. Results demonstrated that people who sleep 6 hours at night or less are more than 4 times more likely to catch a cold as compared to those sleep more than 7 hours.

Another study involved 153 individuals also show that poor sleep efficiency and shorter duration of sleep in the weeks preceding is an exposure to a virus were lower for resistance to illness.

Get enough quality sleep is important for overall well being and immune health.
